Epoch 2 is very similar to its predecessor, but I liked it nonetheless, the basic infinity-blade-like game where you have a few spots to move and a few actions you can take against wave of enemies suffers from a few weird things here and there but has quite a lot going for it.
The core gameplay of Epoch 2 is still the same, you enter a map, tap on enemies to lock on, then move left and right by swiping around to avoid fire while your character automatically pelts them with whatever gun you have equipped. Sometimes you can throw grenades, use special abilities (like slowing down time or healing yourself) and you also have a multi-missiles array that you can shoot on a timer. They’re great to clear out enemies, but I feel that these secondary weapons have no weight, you can spam them as long as you want and there’s no reason not to use them. Maybe giving them limited uses or something, or have them recharge while you defeat enemies.
There’s an active reload now too, where you can swipe down twice to reload your weapon and get some bonus damage on a few shots. It’s a nice idea, but I wish you’d always active reload your weapon, you still have to reload all the time, why not allow you to reload in a cool way every time? You also get experience and levels after missions, but I couldn’t see anywhere what levels did, why not surface that? Do they give more health or damage? I’m unsure.
The rate at which you get credits is fine, I could always buy the next rank of weapons as I progressed by selling my old stuff, the different types of weapons are varied, machine guns, flame throwers, grenades and a new kind of homing missile launcher that can lock on multiple enemies at once. It’s a great weapon type and I used it for most of the game, aiming at enemies and destroyable environment pieces as I concentrated much more with dodging. What’s the point of destroying these boxes in the environment anyway? I never saw any reason to, but I still did it.
I stopped playing when these sniper enemies with red lasers came in, they dodged all of my attacks, disappearing the second when I targeted them, after a couple of seconds, they would glitch out, leaving the red laser floating in mid-air and then I could kill them but they would deal tons of damage to me. This was probably bugged, but I wish there would’ve been more information about enemies and what to do against more complicated foes like that sniper guy. I liked Epoch 2, it’s a fine robot fighting action game, but sadly these red beams snipers… Too bad!
