Lootun has a neat concept, fighting monsters automatically with a leveling up team of heroes while you manage their skills, gear and facilities. In practice, I didn’t have a good time with it at all, everything goes too quickly, you’re bombarded with things to look at and the game doesn’t have time to breathe, ultimately giving you the impression that you’re blazing through mechanics without really interfacing with them.

At the beginning of the game, you create your first character, with a choice of class even tho you don’t understand the game yet, and you fight some woodland monsters to get gear and gold. Alongside that you complete achievements and missions, you level up the maps (all the level up upgrades seem to be the same, which is a bit boring) and finally you get more characters in your party.

This occurs way too quickly in my opinion, but you get a party of three quite fast. Your characters gain skill points to use on passive abilities and you have three active abilities that you can improve as well. You also get a ton of loot, with a ton of effects and I quickly resorted just to ‘auto-equip’ the best stuff I found without looking at all the stuff I got, because there was too much of it. Everything else suffers from that same problem, you unlock buildings with various effects, gathering and crafting, making potions, and more.

Ultimately, maybe I wanted some experience I could feel good idling through, but Lootun just goes at maximum speed and if you don’t keep up, you’re stuck grinding weak enemies for subpar loot. The idea is neat, but the execution didn’t match what I wanted from it, still very interesting and it might be your cup of tea, but it really wasn’t mine!
