Rise of Industry is a neat looking industry simulation game that went just over my head immediately when I started playing it, even going through the tutorial. I think it might be a product of how sandboxy it felt and how every mechanic and system is available immediately even if you had zero time to understand how any of it works, so I dropped it fairly quickly. I really love its artstyle, tho!
The way the 72 steps tutorial framed it, the loop of the game goes as such: You build gatherers to collect resources that you move to factories using various vehicles, like trains or trucks. You use these factories to build products that you then move to sell. You can also build farms and gather resources that way, and all of this generates pollution that you have to deal with. You can collect lumber, water, and other resources in order to craft products tailored to the needs of the villages or cities nearby. There’s a research tree, you can upgrade
In theory, this is all fine and good, in practice I really wish that the game had been smaller, puzzle-like scenarios where I would learn about each mechanic and each system one by one, why to use one over another and to have less options from the get go. As things were, I felt overwhelmed and I really couldn’t figure out in which direction I was supposed to go and if I was even progressing. Which is kind of a shame!
I couldn’t get into Rise of Industry, but maybe it’s just not for me, perhaps it’s quite solid as a simulation game, but I couldn’t get to the point where I would’ve been able to judge that. Oh well, that happens!
