Super Chibi Knight is a zelda 2 inspired game, which is interesting, but the execution is kinda lacking. The game has its charm but I really didn't have fun playing it, so I think that I gave it a fair shake, but poor controls and weird difficulty made me just stop after only a few hours.
After the game's intro, you're dropped on a world map where you can go anywhere, provided you have the quest items required to open some areas, there are quests scattered around and their objectives and rewards are pretty obtuse, forcing you to go all around the map until you find out what you're looking for. When you bump into enemies or go into zones, the game becomes a platformer where you fight things with your sword and special attack, a charged energy beam that is completely useless because it needs to charge for way too long, can't be used in mid-air and depletes your special bar so fast you won't get more than one or two shots off before you need to find potions to recharge it.
Combat is just plain frustrating, enemies have weird hitboxes and you'll take damage without being sure why. Some maps have enemies that'll kill you in one hit, others have simple critters that aren't worth much experience, it's kind of a lose-lose situation. For accruing enough experience, you can level attack, defense or special, much like in Zelda 2, you can also wait until you have enough experience to level the next thing. Leveling special seemed kinda useless because it didn't seem to change how the special attack worked.
Frustrating water physics combined with confusing sequences of walking around the map didn't balance out the numerous Zelda 2 homages that overflow from Super Chibi Knight, I got at such a water-based level and had to do some simple puzzle requiring me to jump from a spot to another after pressing a switch and I just couldn't, so that's when I stopped playing!
