Threes is simple fun, it’s an addictive little puzzle game and while it’s distilled to the core of it’s gameplay concepts - almost to a bare-bones extreme - its simplicity allows for a fun five minutes here and there of moving tiles around.
The goal of Threes is simple, slide blocks around and match two similar blocks to add them together. The only exception are 1s and 2s, which you match to get 3s. Threes become sixes, then twelves, twenty fours, forty eights and so forth. You slide the whole board at once and a new block appears after that, you can more or less guess where it’s going to be, but it’s quite random. Maybe that’s a bit I’d change? Being more clear where the block is going to appear and what it’s going to be? In any case, you lose when the grid fills up and you can’t make any more moves.
There aren’t many things besides the main game, I couldn’t see any leaderboard and the challenge menu only had one of my friends in it. It’s okay, not every game needs a mission system and premium currencies and unlockables, but maybe you could have a Threes ‘level’ that you increase by playing, or something. Just a little bar to fill up, giving you nothing. That sounds like fun, right?
I loved Threes, it was a fun little game, I’m not very good at it, but sliding blocks around to match numbers is a thing everyone can feel good about.
