Quest Lord is an old school RPG where you move in a 3d environment in first person. It’s very confusing and quirky and I lost attention pretty fast after not being sure where to go, fumbling around with a weird UI and not being sure if certain features of the game were bugs or just weird things.
First and foremost, the screen is taken by big buttons to move forward, turn, move backwards, check your inventory and your map. When you move, enemies move, and you attack by swiping the screen - which is nice! - but I wish they would’ve told me that I could swipe in other directions to bash with my shield when I had one equipped. (Speaking of shields, you have to equip it manually and it gets knocked away from you whenever you take damage, which is very weird) In any case, the map could’ve been displayed on the main game screen, what about numbers for my HP and MP too? While I’m at it, why is turning an action? If I turn to face an enemy, I get attacked, not very cool.
The stats aren’t very well explained and they are not obvious either. What does cunning do? What about attack and defense, do they just calculate how much damage I do/take or do they influence hit/dodge chances? And in a broader sense, where am I supposed to go? What’s my big quest? The maps are so small, it should be easy to add a marker on my map to say what direction I should go, or why I don’t have a spellbook, or where’s north.
Some weird interface choices, like adding a button to go back to the main screen in multiple places, like the shop interface, weird. Also, no way too see what I currently have equipped, so you need to go to your equipment screen, and then you might hit the ‘main screen’ button when trying to go back to the shop! That’s a bit weird. The gear feels useless, the healing items heal either too much or not enough, you kill monsters by swiping a bunch, I don’t know, I wish there were more in this Quest Lord game, I didn’t feel like I was questing, nor that I was a lord.
