I’m almost done! During the weekend I completed most of the gameplay and started to add the connective tissue between the levels, scoring system, boost system and so forth. I still need to add music and sound effects and to create the logic that generates the level, but then it’s done :D

Olly can now move up and down the ladder, pick up blocks and throw them away so they can get recycled! I also redid the background in voxels, because I could.

I’ve started a very small project for the A Game By It’s Cover game jam, an event I try to participate in every year. This year I’m going with the following cartridge and game idea; “Puzzle”.

I’m not 100% sure yet of how the game will work, but it’ll be a split-screen puzzle game where you need to clear blocks from a beach by recycling them while controlling a girl and her friend the crab. It’ll be playable by one or two players.

I did some more Telekinetic Power design today, writing their description and starting to think about their flavor text. Next week I’ll probably work on my AGBIC2020 entry because it’s a gamejam I really enjoy working on, so I’ll be taking a break from this project, but don’t worry, I’ll be back!

Today I worked a bit more on the algorithm to decide what kind of info you get about your enemies when you look them up in your notepad and I also designed more of the telekinetic powers. More combat-related stuff is to come!

I’m currently working on random encounters, how they are going to be triggered, when and where (I don’t want them to occur when there’s dialogue supposed to pop out on a specific tile, for instance), and progressing slightly with the progression of the game as well!

I think I’m done with the notepad for now, I have to work on the various TK powers now. The plan is for all 26 TK Powers to be available at the beginning of the game, thus contributing to the puzzle aspect of the battles. Maybe if i't’s too overwhelming or if having all powers doesn’t bring anything good to the game I’ll have them get unlocked progressively, but I’m not sure yet!

Today I worked on the battle flow when you defeat enemies and finish a fight. I still have a few weird bugs here and there - I found a softlock related to the bestiary page popping up, for instance - but things are going well on that end. I think I’ll have a few more lines of dialogue to write and then we’re off to the races!

I’ve spent a bit of time on that Telekinesis Power UI, but I decided to go back to the normal menus after trying a few things out. I wanted a stylish way to show all the powers at once, but what I had wasn’t great. It covered too much of the normal UI, prevented you from seeing the enemies and wasn’t -that- cool anyways. That’s today’s screenshot, imagine it’s full of buttons on the ‘branches’ of the wheel, and the wheel is rolling around!

I decided that it’d be best for text to work uniformly between cutscenes and the battle system, so now you have to click or press a key for the text to advance. It’s a bit much for the tutorial encounters, but it’ll probably go faster for normal fights. I’m almost ready to start with the telekinesis power system, still have a few bits of UI to tweak (and a weird issue where the character can rotate out of the tutorial fight)

I’m happier about the enemy info page as it is now. I have to figure out what’s next in the tutorial battle flow, I know the player needs to use one of their special abilities to defeat the enemy, but I have to figure out how that’s gonna work!

I’m now working on target selection and then I’ll actually get to the notepad tool effect! I’m happier with the look of my menu and the dynamic button sizes, so everything is progressing smoothly!
